Combined Post Processed/RTK
After an initial pass through the equipment and software operations by
the instructor the students are engaged in a "hands on" field
exercise and subsequent session of software processing and final coordinate
production. This is followed by detailed discussion of likely problems and
pitfalls (and how to avoid them).
The classes are concluded with a final round of questions and answers and
a discussion of ways to increase the scope and quality of the business opportunities
available because of these tools.
Application guides outlining the Trimble Survey Controller, various receiver
operations and TGO/TBC computations will be provided. There will be at least
three field exercises incorporated into the five day session. The basic
class schedule follows, if necessary modifications can be made to accommodate
particular requirements of the attendees.
Combined Course Outline
DAY ONE
Morning session
- Introduction and discussion of general GPS principles and concepts (WGS84 reference frame, heights vs.
elevations, local coordinates, etc.) This segment conducted with various slides (paper copies of the slides
are included) and examples using the Trimble software.
Afternoon session
- Basic introduction to the Surveyor Controller/receivers using a computer based version of the equipment projected
onscreen
- Review and prepare system for field use (cabling, power considerations, etc.)
DAY TWO
Morning session
- Review previous conceptual discussions and system considerations
- Setup and run planning software, network planning and field observations (satellite planning as well as survey goals and
parameters - this network will be used for the RTK portion of the training)
- Conduct field exercise (the purpose of this session is to become familiar with the system setup and basic data capture,
including post processing kinematic techniques).
Afternoon session
- Basic introduction to TGO/TBC, download field data, review and discuss data manipulation and management
- Process and adjust data from the field exercise, including incorporation of the geoid model elevation values.
This data set will be the basis for the RTK field exercises later.
DAY THREE
Morning session
- Review previous concepts and procedures
- Process and adjust extensive sample data sets with TGO/TBC, concentrating on baseline evaluation, adjustment procedures
and results using Least Squares.
Afternoon session
- Discuss basic connections between the RTK and Post Processing aspects of the system
- Detailed introduction to the Survey Controller and receivers using a computer based version projected onscreen
- Review and prepare system for field use (cabling, radios, power considerations, etc.)
DAY FOUR
Morning session
- Review previous conceptual discussions and system considerations
- Setup and run planning software for field session (satellite planning as well as survey goals and parameters)
- Conduct field exercise (the purpose of this session is to become familiar with the system setup, radio connections,
basic data capture and stakeout routines).
Afternoon session
- Basic introduction to TGO/TBC, download field data, review and discuss data manipulation and management
- Plan next field session (this session is intended to simulate the type of work typically conducted
by the attendees), including coordinate upload to the Survey Controller for point/alignment stakeout
and TGO/TBC calibrations.
DAY FIVE
Morning session
- Review previous concepts and procedures
- Conduct field session, download, process if necessary, and export data (either graphics via DWG/DXF or
coordinates via ASCII) from TGO/TBC
Afternoon session
- Continue TGO/TBC training
- Discuss detailed connections between the RTK and Post Processing aspects of the system, creating user defined
coordinate systems, etc.
- Final review and open discussion
